Getting started

Download Komorebi, check the installer, install it for your Windows user and add your first account.

What you need

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit (x64).
  • An email account that offers IMAP and SMTP with a password or an app password. Komorebi has no OAuth sign-in, so Gmail and Microsoft 365 accounts that require it are not supported.

Download

Download komorebi-0.7.0-setup.exe from the latest release on GitHub. Next to the installer, the release has two small files with the same name plus .sha256 (its SHA-256 hash) and .sig (the signature the in-app update checks).

Check the download

The installer is not Authenticode-signed yet (see the code signing policy), so check its hash before you run it. In PowerShell, in the folder you downloaded to, with the version you downloaded:

(Get-FileHash .\komorebi-0.7.0-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256).Hash.ToLower()
Get-Content .\komorebi-0.7.0-setup.exe.sha256

Both lines must show the same 64 characters. If they differ, delete the file and download it again.

Install

Run the installer. By default it installs for your Windows user only, with no administrator rights, into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Komorebi. Its first page also offers an install for all users, which asks for administrator rights and installs into Program Files\Komorebi (or run it with /ALLUSERS).

The installer adds a Start menu shortcut and an uninstall entry, and offers a desktop shortcut and starting with Windows. It also registers Komorebi as a mail app, so you can choose it for email links in Windows Settings > Apps > Default apps. /SILENT or /VERYSILENT install without questions.

First start

The first start shows a welcome: "Add your email account", a short line on what Komorebi is, and links to help, the privacy statement, a Language box (it switches at once) and Settings. Continue with Adding an account.

The first start on a new install: the welcome screen

Komorebi follows the Windows display language: any Portuguese except Brazilian is shown in European Portuguese, everything else in English. Settings > General > Language can pin System, English or Português (Portugal), and the window changes at once.

Where your data lives

  • Mail, drafts, the Outbox, contacts, the calendar, rules and settings: a SQLite cache in %LOCALAPPDATA%\komorebi. It is plaintext unless you encrypt it.
  • Passwords: Windows Credential Manager only, never Komorebi's files.

Privacy and what leaves your computer lists every file and every connection.

Uninstall

Uninstall from Windows Settings > Apps. The uninstaller asks, with No as the default, whether to delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\komorebi too. It never touches Credential Manager: to remove the saved passwords as well, use Settings > Privacy > Remove all data in Komorebi before you uninstall.
